ED summons Kolkata Police DC Shantanu Sinha Biswas and his two sons, probe into alleged links with ‘Sona Pappu’

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas and his two sons to the CGO Complex following a raid at his residence, intensifying its probe into alleged financial links involving South Kolkata resident ‘Sona Pappu’ and promoter Joy Kamdar. The development comes amid an ongoing investigation into suspected financial transactions and associations connected to the case.

According to officials, preliminary findings suggest a possible connection between Sona Pappu, Behala-based promoter Joy Kamdar, and Shantanu Sinha Biswas, who had earlier served as the Officer-in-Charge of Kalighat Police Station. Investigators are examining whether there were any financial dealings between the arrested promoter and either the senior police officer or his family members.

Shantanu’s two sons, who are associated with educational institutions, have also been called for questioning as they are reportedly known to Joy Kamdar. The agency is probing the nature of their association and whether any monetary transactions took place. Meanwhile, evidence of financial links between Sona Pappu and Joy Kamdar has reportedly emerged, following which Kamdar was arrested after prolonged questioning.

However, Joy Kamdar has not yet been produced in court as he fell ill and was admitted to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Officials indicated he may be presented before court soon. In a related development, Sona Pappu, named as the main accused in a recent Ballygunge disturbance case, remains absconding. Earlier, the ED had also summoned an IPS officer in connection with the matter. During Sunday’s raid at the Fern Road residence of Shantanu Sinha Biswas, officials found him absent, though his son stated that ED had previously questioned him.
